Millions of dogs are hit by motor vehicles each year in the United States. Many result in severe and/or lasting injuries to the dog, but sadly most end in death. These unexpected and unforeseen events can cost dog owners thousands of dollars in veterinary bills, and emotional costs so deep that they simply can't be measured. The vast majority of these accidents happen because the dog wasn't seen in enough time to avoid impact, or not at all. And the chances of this unfortunate event increase exponentially under low-light or dark conditions.
To address this problem, dog owners can turn to an ever expanding multitude of dog "wearables", like collars, leashes, harnesses, and charms, that integrate LED lights as an added FEATURE or accessory. And at first blush, this would seem to make sense. However, I would submit that there is a better way.
Unfortunately, this traditional and decades old approach hasn't effectively solved the problem in any real and meaningful way. In fact, I discovered an inherent weakness or inferiority in each of these devices, that should give every loving dog owner pause. Be it safety, fit, comfort, practicality, or overall efficacy, I found no one LED dog safety "device" in the marketplace that could confidently and consistently meet the need of keeping dog and owner visibly connected after dark. In particular, if a dog should unexpectedly back out of its collar in a rush of fear or excitement. That's when I decided to attack this problem myself, and started by looking at it a innovative and unique perspective.
I soon realized that to truly solve this problem for dog owners, I had to pull the LED component out and away from being just a feature of some other thing, and create something that did not exist, a specialized LED device that was dedicated to doing the one thing it was designed to do...shine! In doing so, illuminating a dog at a level and degree that could truly keep them safe beyond compare, because they'd be more visible and from a greater distances, allowing them to avoid oncoming impacts. That meant developing a standalone device decoupled from a collar, harness, or leash, that centralized the light where it could be most visible from every angle approaching the dog. And constructed of materials that magnify the brightness of the LED lights so there would be no mistake by a motorist, cyclist, or pedestrian, that there was something in their path.
What also became a priority was that it was safe, comfortable, and provided a universal fit for dogs of all breeds and sizes. Because some dogs can wear a collar and not a harness, and vice-versa due to bone structure, musculature, etc.
As a result, the concept of the K-9ite Safety Light was born, and after bootstrapping the prototype in 2016, it was realized.

The device is light weight and provides a customized fit for each dog, and if used properly, will be secured firmly to the dog, but will not restrict movement and allow for full range of motion.
